A big Year for Virtual Reality

Companies like HTC, Sony, Microsoft, and Google are doing great work for Virtual Reality. Its uses and acceptance in gaming are increasing with every passing day. Microsoft is planning to launch a VR version of Windows 10. Now we can safely say that Virtual Reality has finally arrived.

A lot of experts think that Virtual Reality will become a mainstream technology in 2017. But it’s quite unclear if VR has a widespread appeal yet.

There is no doubt that VR is working great in gaming. It has wide acceptance in gaming due to the fact that gaming is the obvious application of this emerging technology. But companies are still struggling to convince consumers of the necessity of VR headsets.

VR is also used for 360-degree videos alongside games. But it would be a compelling thing in future only if headset manufacturers ensure to have enough supply of newer content. For ensuring enough contents the hardware provider needs to convince content creators to have enough devices in the market. So both the things are inter-related. It needs more content to sell more devices and vice versa.  

Augmented Reality is Eye Opening                                

Augmented Reality is in the market for quite long and it doesn’t have the problem of VR. Recently success of Pokemon Go has taken AR to another level. The world has seen its true potential in gaming. But Augmented Reality is capable of more than smartphone games.

VR creates a virtual world but AR simply administers a virtual layer on the environment around us. This is the main difference between AR and VR and this is the only reason which gives AR an upper hand. By using Augmented Reality technology we can make many of our daily tasks easy. For example, an online spectacles seller can implement AR on their website or App to provide buyers an option to test glasses virtually. 

To become a wide spread and well received technology, AR has to come out of smartphones. Google even showed us a vision by its Google Glass, but sadly it’s failed due to not so perfect launch. Microsoft is trying hard with its HoloLens AR Headset but it’s in developing phase and currently available to developers only. It will take the time to reach to the consumers.

It’s expected that in 2017 AR will snatch more attention than VR due to smartphone apps that have real practical uses across a range of industries.
